The United States' House of Representatives rejected, with a vote of 228 to 205, the 700 billion dollar rescue plan for the financial industry.

The consequences were immediately felt on the New York Stock exchange, with a 6,98% fall; followed by other plunging stock indexes.

President George W. Bush expressed disappointment, but promised to develop a new strategy to rescue the financial sector.
