Concern over demobilized

16 de septiembre de 2008

The battle between criminal gangs over control of drug-trafficking in the region, has led to an increase in the crime index in the Lower Cauca (Bajo Cauca).

The rising number of homicides, authorities say, only adds to existing concerns about some 450 demobilized citizens who abandoned reinsertion programs and whose fate at this point is unknown.

The concern is that some of these people may have been recruited once more by illegal groups.

According to the High Council for Reintegration, the lower Cauca is one of the regions with most obstacles for the reinsertion process because of the strong drug-trafficking presence.
