Councilman John Jaime Moncada said the corporation cannot remain inactive towards the number of people suffering from malnutrition in the city, which are between 29 and 50%.
He specifically referred to the villages of Altavista, San Antonio de Prado and San Cristobal, where indexes reported up to 2007 put malnutrition among the population at 50%.
In response to the data presented by Moncada, the secretary of Social Welfare reported that up until September of 2008, the numbers have gone from 48% to 33%. It's not ideal, he said, but the goal is to continue to improve.
