The United States democratically elected its 44th President, Democrat Barack Obama, who becomes the first African American president in the country's history.
For Colombia, the choice will represent significant changes in the relationship with its northern neighbor; the approval of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) will certainly be more difficult given the fact that Barack Obama has openly opposed it as long as human rights are not respected and violence continues against union workers.
Some analysts consulted by EL COLOMBIANO also believe financial aid will be cut for Plan Colombia, and resources will be less for military aid and more for social issues instead.
