With opposing arguments and the majority leaning towards remaining in the organization, the first debate on whether or not Medellín should break away from the Colombian Federation of Municipalities took place in City Council.
The draft agreement, presented by Mayor Alonso Salazar and Secretary of the Treasury, Ivan Mauricio Pérez, argues that the city doesn’t obtain any type of benefit nor does it feel represented by the organization.
Some council members support the motion, others say that if there are disagreements then these must be addressed internally with the Federation, and others strongly oppose the idea of leaving.
